Radar Watch: Lions, and tigers, and bears!
There’s just something about Joss Whedon that we all love. And I’m pretty sure it’s for what’s up in his noggin, whether it be his sarcastic humor, passion for humanitarian efforts, or just your love for his work. So, yeah. I’m pretty sure it’s his brain. Unless you’re Neil Cameron and creating The A-Z of Awesomeness. Then, you might love…something else. Get your mind out of the gutter! Well, not completely out of the gutter.
io9 had an article today about the essence of the “F*@% Yeah” Moment. Basically, the moment where a character’s actions made you say…well, that. There’s some mention of Battlestar Galactica, Firefly and Serenity (River kicks the Reavers’ ass!). But when I’m thinking of F*@% Yeah moments I have to say Buffy in ‘Anne’ or ‘Showtime’. What are your favorite F*@% Yeah moments? Kudo points if you choose a Whedon show.
EOnline is having their annual ‘Save One Show’ campaign and I just really wanted to vote for FlashForward cause I know everyone else will be voting elsewhere. But apparently according to TVAddict I can’t, otherwise it’d be a wasted vote. They’ve narrowed down all the options to only the ones that have a chance: Chuck, Life Unexpected, Mercy, Sons of Tucson and V. Looks like I’ll be choosing Life Unexpected then.
It’s funny that there are so many shows possibly getting the axe, but then there’s always something coming down the pipeline. I’m excited that Stargate Universe comes back this Friday and the Baltimore Sun said: “Since Battlestar Galactica ended, this has taken the throne for my favorite show. The characters are complex and their situations leave your heart pumping and fists clenching for more.” Yay! And I hear aliens are coming. Oh, oh. And word is Vampire Diaries will be on DVD in August. Which feels like a long time from now, but word. Five months til you’re in my hands, my pretty. And although I’ve never seen it still, I’m sure many of you will be happy to hear that Castle (Captain Tight Pants!) has been renewed for a third season.
Then, this July we have Syfy’s Haven with Eric Balfour (Jesse from BtVS) based on Stephen King’s novella “The Colorado Kid”. And in June, ABC’s Scoundrels about a family of small-time crooks who decide to go legit after their father lands in jail. Also in July, USA’s Covert Affairs about a young CIA trainee who is thrust into the inner sanctum of the agency when she is unexpectedly promoted to field operative. And amusingly enough, Christopher Gohram (Jake 2.0.) will be back in this, another spy show. Yay! for summer tv.
Then, let’s not forget about this fall. The spy genre adds Michaela McManus (One Tree Hill) and Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights, Caprica) on The CW’s Nomads, about a group of nearly broke young backpackers abroad who agree to earn money by working secret missions for the CIA. There’s just something about spies that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and thinking, ‘tv escapism’. And Summer Glau may be back on NBC’s The Cape about a former cop framed for a crime he didn’t commit who becomes The Cape, a masked hero, to clear his name.
And not really my cup of tea, but Treat Williams (Everwood), Katee Sackhoff (BSG), and Goran Visnjic (ER) are back on ABC’s Boston’s Finest about a detective who teams with Angus Martin, a disgraced ex-cop to solve crimes and untangle the conspiracy that sent him underground. And Caroline Dhavernas (Wonderfalls) is back on ABC’s Off the Map about three doctors who leave the comfort of the U.S. to work at an isolated tropical clinic.
Most of these shows have already finished filming, but sadly we won’t know til May which of these will make the cut past pilot to become a series. And then sometime this summer we’ll hopefully get an early screener of those that did make it. Coming to a torrent and computer near you.
AMC has already committed to six episodes of it’s zombie (yum, yum) series The Walking Dead. Which apparently it’s six episode order is not a slam, since all their new shows have gotten the same. Yay! Zombies. I hear the comic is at least good.
I don’t know how many people saw Summit’s Push with Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning? I saw it and while I didn’t think it was awesome, I did like the concept and style. Well, guess what? Summit (Twilight, The Hurt Locker) is making their first foray into television with a Push tv show. Yay? And on Chris Evans, did you realize he’s been in this many comic book movies?
And I know you’re all thinking we don’t need any more Terminator movies. And I, even being a huge T fan, would normally agree. But because I’m a huge T fan, this news on two more possible movies made me *squee*. What? I’m weak. Speaking of Terminator, another interview with Zack Whedon on the comic book series he’s been writing. You can never have enough Whedon.
And also because I’m weak, normally the thought of Stephenie Meyer inflicting torture on us fans with another possible Breaking Dawn would have me running away, I’m actually curious about her latest Twilight: Eclipse novella to be released on June 5th. (Just in time for Twilight: Eclipse movie, no doubt.) And while I’d really rather be reading Midnight Sun, as you’ve all agreed, I’m just glad to get something else from the Twilightverse. Unless…it turns out to be another Breaking Dawn. Then, you can all laugh and say you told me so.

Zombies are becoming reality via H1N1 shots. Be prepared. These ARE the end days.
It’s a good thing I haven’t gotten any of those then.
