Review: You make one mistake, you make up for it the rest of your life.

Just like Pretty Little Liars, The Lying Game thrives on teenagers, mysteries, and most importantly, lies. Yet, unlike its sister show, we can actually look forward to getting some surprising answers each week. So while ABC Family’s new show may not be as good as its much hyped neighbor, it’s definitely more satisfying.

In “Twinsense and Sensibility,” I’m happy to say the show has finally established its own identity. After Emma has a terrifying nightmare, there’s more suspicion as to what exactly went down all those years ago. And with Sutton still in Los Angeles, we get more answers about the twins’ birth mother.

Alec: Keep an eye on your kid. The last thing we need is for her to go snooping around LA.

Could Mad’s father Alec, and Sutton’s godfather, be any creepier? First, he follows Emma (as Sutton) while she’s out jogging at night. (Which is a stupid thing for Emma to do, by the way.) And then he tells Sutton’s father, Ted: “We know how this works: If there’s dirty work to be done, just leave it to me — just like in high school.” What happened in high school? Does this have anything to do with the twins’ mother?

It’s becoming clearer and clearer that both Ted and Alec are hiding a lot of things. Could one of them even be the father of the girls? My money is on Ted since Alec said he’s the one who screwed up, and Alec’s just cleaning up the mess. Or maybe Ted just adopted one of the girls and didn’t want to give her back when their mother returned. The jury’s still out on whether they killed her. If she’s even dead.

Emma [to Sutton]: You lived a life worth remembering.

One of the things that surprised me this episode was Laurel lying to her dad and saying she stole Sutton’s laptop. It may have been just as a thank you for her sister setting her up with Justin, but it also seems the two girls are getting closer. Later, Emma tells Ethan that once Sutton’s family finds out about her being an imposter, they’ll want nothing to do with her. I think she underestimates how much she’s grown on Laurel.

It’s too bad Laurel’s new boy-toy seems to have money problems. Does anyone really believe he accidentally gave the waiter a $50 instead of a $5? Poor, Laurel. Mad’s secret relationship with her ballet instructor is now out. And Char’s life and relationship with her friends is self destructing all around her. None of this is Emma’s fault, but she just happened to come at the perfect time.

Sutton: I read about this. It’s like this psychic thing that happens with identical twins.

Then, there’s the twins discovery of their birth mother’s name, Annie Hobbes. Emma has a nightmare about suffocating in a fire, and Sutton’s mom, Kristin comforts her like she’d done in the past. Both twins shared the same nightmare? Sutton seems to think it’s “twinsense,” but I’m guessing there’s something more going on.

Next week:

Emma’s screwing up Sutton’s life and pissing her off in the process. Plus, all of Sutton’s friends don’t look too happy either.
