Review: So, you think you don’t belong in a mental institution?

If there’s one thing I love as much as a mythology episode, it’s a standalone episode with connections to mythology. So this week’s episode of Fringe was able to fill that spot in my heart perfectly.

Some may feel “Alone in the World” suffers from being a bit too obvious, but I actually enjoyed the comparison of Walter’s situation to the little boy Aaron. Plus, it had the added benefit of making John Noble the focus of an episode again.

Walter’s still being haunted this week by the memories and voices of Peter, but he’s able to to put it all aside to help a lonely little boy named Aaron who finds himself connected to a fungus that Walter names Gus. (Get it, fun-Gus?) This is all kind of a coverup though for Walter finding yet another connection to his son Peter in Aaron. It all culminates in a crazy scene where Walter decides he’s had enough and tries to lobotomize himself with a skewer through the eye to stop himself from going crazy. I was one of those people who gasped out loud. Icky!

I really enjoyed the partnership between Olivia and Lincoln again, too. (Our Lincoln is all kinds of adorkable.) I also loved seeing William Sadler (Roswell) as a guest star. But I’m hoping the show starts making a move on the main storyline of the season very soon.

Notes and Quotes:

Walter: I thought that since it’s a single living entity that perhaps we should name it for the sake of clarity.

Aaron: So, you think you don’t belong in a mental institution?

Lincoln: Hey! Hey, you look a little freaked out. You wanna talk about it?Next week:

Peter’s baaack?! (And Nina?)
