Review: There are people who leave an indelible mark on your soul.

With Peter currently MIA, and both worlds botched as a result, the topic of this week’s Fringe is something I think we’re going to be hearing a lot about this season: Does each person leave their own mark on the world?

Well, for John McClennan in “One Night in October,” one person did indeed make all the difference. In previous seasons, it wouldn’t have even been possible to investigate such an intriguing premise as this one. It’s just another example of how this season might be the show’s best yet.

Broyles: At the risk of sounding sentimental, I’ve always thought there are people who leave an indelible mark on your soul. An imprint that can never be erased.

The idea of comparing a professor to a serial killer isn’t a new one, actually The Shield’s Shawn Ryan is even making it into a tv series, but it’s how the show uses it to compare characters and investigate their differences that interests me. The John McClennan of our world had someone to teach him how to ward of the evil in his mind, while the one from the alternate world ended up being serial killer. In this case, it’s kind of like nature versus nurture.

Alt-Lincoln: You hate being out here, don’t you?
Olivia: Why do you say that?
Alt-Lincoln: Because she would hate it.
Olivia: I’m fine with it.

Meanwhile, we learn about some more differences in the lives of our two Olivia’s. In this new reality without Peter, our Olivia killed her step-father in order to, we assume, avoid his abuse.

For the other Olivia the results weren’t as dire. (Well, unless you’re an alt!Lincoln and alt!Olivia shipper like me.) She’s still dating Frank, because having Peter’s baby never broke them up, and the other Lincoln never had a chance to declare his love. Their relationship is another casualty of a Peter-less world. I feel like the writers are trying to hurt everyone with this storyline, the over here couple and the over there couple.

Notes and Quotes:

Walter was both hilarious and tragic as he covered all the mirrors and attempted to keep the vision of Peter at bay.

I love how the other Olivia acts, walks, and talks completely different to our Olivia.

I also really enjoyed all the other Lincoln moments with our Olivia and the other Olivia. I’ll be waiting anxiously until they give us back the relationship between alt!Lincoln and alt!Olivia.

Walter: Kennedy, help me!
Lincoln: Lincoln!

Astrid: Do you ever think that maybe you’re type just doesn’t exist?
I think I’m starting to get that same idea about me, Olivia. I feel you.

Fauxlivia: Waddya think?
Alt-Lincoln: Blonde looks good on you.
Fauxlivia: Yeah, well good think Frank likes the red.
Alt-Lincoln: I didn’t say I didn’t like the red. You look good in both.

Next week:

Our Lincoln and Olivia investigate a case involving a boy and rapid decomposition. Meanwhile, Walter continues going crazy some more and mixing Peter into this new reality.
