Review: I’ve lost too much already… I don’t want to lose you, too.

Ever since Ringer began, it’s been a little hard to pinpoint exactly what genre it should fall in. Mystery, noir, thriller? It’s a little bit of all those things, but lately I’ve been thinking it should just go ahead and embrace its inner soap opera.

I don’t know if it’s because there hasn’t been a new episode in two weeks, but “Oh Gawd, There’s Two of Them?” felt even more out there than usual. The show continues to be so entrancing you can’t turn away, yet so ridiculous you can’t help but be amused.

Bridget: I told you the truth.
Andrew: Only because you had to.

Last time on Ringer, Bridget made a decision that may have been a smart move, but also a very risky one at the same time: She planted her fingerprints on a piece of evidence associated with Gemma’s murder and then led the police right to it.

I’d hoped she had a good reason for inviting some extra drama into her life, and I’m happy to say it was so Bridget could pin the crime on her real identity, thus sending the police off in search of someone they’re never supposed to find, while allowing her new fake identity as Siobhan to get away scot free. Ingenious, right? This could backfire so horribly.

If you’re starting to get confused about who is who, and what exactly is going on, well you’re not the only one. Throughout the episode, I couldn’t help but notice how good Bridget was getting at pretending she was Siobhan and talking about herself in the third person. It must really be doing a number on her psyche to talk so negatively about all the things she did in the past.

Andrew: This baby means everything to me.

Which brings me to an important revelation, Bridget finally spills the beans to Andrew and Henry about being a twin. I think it’s a good thing for not only Bridget, she had to do it so Andrew wouldn’t be blindsided by the news when he spoke to the police, but also good for her fake marriage to Andrew that she’s finally let go of one of the most important lies holding her back.

The reveal is not so good though for the “Siobhan” and Andrew relationship. (Trouble in Brandredise?) Andrew is not happy to say the least. And who would be? He devoted five years to this marriage, and he’s just now hearing she has a twin? Question: Why do you think the real Siobhan kept the truth from him? Was it as Bridget said, because Siobhan was ashamed of her sister?

Meanwhile, Malcolm escapes from the thugs who’ve been keeping him hostage, only he finds out it was a trick so he’d lead them to Bridget. So where does Malcolm go? Straight to see Bridget, which causes her to faint, which means she’s sent to the hospital, and then quickly set up for an ultrasound to make sure her baby is ok.

I love that twists in this show happen from such a random chain of events. Too bad there’s no baby for the doctor to find, right? Or is there? Let’s just say this show is very transparent, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Bridget is already pregnant with Malcolm or even someone else’s baby.

Juliet: You owe me bitch. Like ten million dollars.

Then there’s Juliet, a casualty of one step forward, two steps back this week. I was just starting to like her last time, but she’s again getting on my nerves this week. Even Jason Dohring, who is shoehorned into the plot for that one minute of screen time (I counted), isn’t enough to save her.

Really, Juliet? You just had two beers? You’re in high school, you shouldn’t be having any beers, and definitely not driving afterward. Her response to being cut off from her father’s money was also ridiculously comical.

Charlie: When I agreed to be your sponsor I thought it was going to be a whole lot easier than this.

It all ends with what I think the writers thought would be a twist, but I found it to be painfully obvious that Bridget’s sponsor Charlie  knew more than he was telling. The entire episode I kept watching for signs that he was in on Gemma’s murder with Siobhan.

While I didn’t find anything, Charlie’s a good actor, I did turn out to be right about it all: Siobhan did have Charlie kill Gemma so she wouldn’t tell anyone about Bridget pretending to be Siobhan. The question now is why?

Notes and Quotes:

Could Bridget and Andrew be any more adorable? Just ignore the whole fact that this whole relationship is a big hoax and revel in the power of their stares and that kiss.

Your phones have already been looked into by the police, why would you use it again to call Malcolm?

I’m still not convinced Gemma is dead. This show is nothing if not deceitful.

Next week:

Andrew is onto you, Bridget, and he’s not happy about you letting Malcolm into his house.
