Review: Maybe we can get a dog instead?

A large part of Andrew’s renewed relationship with his wife Siobhan on Ringer has hinged on her being newly pregnant with their baby. Only we all know Siobhan is actually Bridget, and the existence of a baby is just another lie in her series of lies.

So it’s been an important question since the series premiere: How was Bridget going to get away with not actually being pregnant? In an episode titled “Maybe We Can Get a Dog Instead?”, it’s not hard to figure out what the writers decided to do.

Juliet: Maybe we can get a dog instead?

I feel really bad for Andrew. He’s pretty much the only character on this show who still has a conscience and hasn’t done anything wrong. (If he ends up having an affair with his coworker, or we learn that he already had an affair, I’m not going to be happy.) Yet he has a daughter with a drug problem, a ‘wife’ with a sister problem, and a friend with a missing wife. His life is crazy.

And now the baby he’s been looking forward to has been taken away from him, too. Then to make it even worse, he overhears Bridget saying she doesn’t want to get pregnant again. On the one hand, I’m glad the show didn’t go the soap opera route of making her pregnant with someone else’s baby, but at the same time I feel like it’s a bit of a cop-out that the writers decided to dismiss the baby storyline entirely. They seem to always be taking the easy way out.

Meanwhile, Malcolm finally made his way back into Bridget’s life, only to find out the woman he endured drugs for doesn’t want to leave with him. Truthfully, she wouldn’t be able to go back to being Bridget even if she wanted, since she recently “threw Bridget under the bus” after framing herself for Gemma’s murder. I like the Malcolm and Bridget friendship, and I find it interesting they had a prior relationship, I just hope the show doesn’t take the pair in that direction again.

I also found it really amusing that Bridget spending time with her new sponsor Charlie made her flashback to the time she spent with her old sponsor Malcolm. Awkward. Speaking of Charlie, I wish they’d just tell us whether he killed Gemma or not. Siobhan cutting him off every time the two talk about it is getting really old. What is Siobhan and Charlie’s ultimate plan? And why do they need to get Malcolm out of the way to do it?

Juliet’s storyline continues to be one of the most ridiculous on the show, and that’s saying something. What teenager would so obviously hit on their teacher and think it’s ok? At least other shows that have toyed with a teacher-student relationship haven’t been so casual about it.

However, the storyline with Tyler is just getting more delicious. I love that he thinks Bridget is Siobhan, and I can’t wait to see where this goes. I wonder about Bridget though, do you think she should have put two and two together yet? Could Tyler be how she eventually finds out about Siobhan being alive?

Notes and Quotes:

Not to be forgotten, I also felt really bad for Henry, even Bridget forgets he’s actually the father of the not-so-fake baby.

Next week:

It’s about time Charlie is found out!
