Fall TV Preview: What’s Hot and New This Season

How to Get Away with Murder on ABC

In this day and age, TV shows premiere all year around, but there’s still something really magical about the fall season. It’s that time of the year when all the new series we’ve heard about since May finally debut and when many of our favorites finally return after the long summer break.

Even though cable and streaming services have changed the game tremendously, September officially kicks off the TV season. So pull up a seat, while I introduce you to what I think are this year’s hottest new shows on network TV. But you don’t have to take just my word for it.

Red Band Society (FOX)

Who: From Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire); Starring Octavia Spencer (The Help), Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters), Griffin Gluck, Nolan Sotillo, Charlie Rowe, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Brian Bradley, Ciara Bravo and Zoe Levin.

What: The series is a provocative, unconventional and, at times, comic high school drama told through the eyes of a group of teenagers who meet as patients in the pediatric ward of Ocean Park Hospital in Los Angeles. The series is part comedy, part drama, with a tone that’s unique unto itself.

When, Where: Wed, Sept. 17 at 9PM on FOX.

Why:

@KSiteTV  Aug 4 Finally watched the @RedBandSociety pilot last night. Well done & very optimistic series despite the setting. Made me smile.

@cadlymack  May 31 Okay, I’ve watched all the fall pilots I have any interest in watching. Red Band Society is my new great love.

@LacyMB  Aug 27 Watched the @RedBandSociety pilot and just loved it. Looking forward to the full season (and getting my tissues ready now). #redbandsociety

What: Before there was Batman, there was GOTHAM. Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains?

@LauInLA  Jul 20 As a big lame Batman nerd, there are things that irritate me about the #Gotham pilot, but I’m still very excited to see more.
