Comic-Con, Day One: Ringer, The Hunger Games, Prometheus, In Time, and more!

Every summer, around 130,000 fans head to San Diego for the largest convention held in the United States. And originally, the main focus of San Diego Comic-Con was the comic books, but these days they’ve taken a bit of a backseat to tv and movies.

Today was the first official full day of panels, Q&As, and interviews, but the fun has actually already started. Last night, screenings were held for three of the fall’s most anticipated new shows. And the studios have been releasing new trailers and posters for a few days now. It’s definitely Comic-Con time.

Television, Day One

THR came up with the perfect thing to start off Comic-Con, an interview with six of TV’s leading women. A sit down with Sarah Michelle Gellar (CW’s new show Ringer), Jennifer Morrison (ABC’s new Once Upon a Time), Britt Robertson (CW’s new The Secret Circle), Yvonne Strahovski (NBC’s Chuck), Maggie Q (CW’s Nikita), and Anna Torv (Fox’s Fringe). My favorite part? Seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar, the oldest and most tv experienced of the six, become a kind of mentor to all of them on the various ins and outs of tv business. She’s earned it. There’s something about this show that just seems…magical. Pun intended. Once Upon a Time has been getting a lot of criticism from comparisons to the comic series Fables, which ABC also passed on making into a tv series, but I, for one, am willing to give the show a chance. And ABC is definitely wasting no time in getting people interested with new posters and a new trailer. [TVLine] [EW]

Yesterday, CW’s The Secret Circle debuted a new trailer with a new logo. I love the way this new trailer invokes the elements with new footage from the pilot. [TVGuide]

Then, CW’s highly anticipated new show Ringer, starring Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Sarah Michelle Gellar, has released not only new posters but a new trailer as well. [EW] [EW]

CW’s Nikita also debuted its own kick-ass new trailer. [E!Online] September and the CW premieres can’t come soon enough.

From Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame, writer Jane Espenson also debuted a poster from her new webseries Husbands yesterday. Its also stars fangirl favorite, Alessandra Torresani. I’ve missed her since Caprica. [CliqueClack TV]

I’ve been following writer-producer Howard Gordon from X-Files and Angel for a while, so I’m excited we get a first look at his new series, Homeland. Showtime has also released a trailer for the 6th season of Dexter. [TVLine]

Movies, Day One

Getting it out of the way, a short clip is so far the only footage we have to show from the Twilight panel. [YouTube]

Superhero movies have been all the rage for a number of years now, so it’s no surprise Spider-Man is being remade again. I was happy enough with the first one or two Spiderman movies. Still, I don’t see how a new darker take on Spiderman, ala Batman Begins, could hurt the superhero franchise. I’ll be there waiting in line, as I’m sure a lot of you will, too. [YouTube]

I actually hadn’t heard about this movie til now, but I’m already interested in Twixt from director Francis Ford Coppola. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t actually seen any of his movies, but his reputation precedes him. The references to Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allen Poe, two of my favorite writers, and the casting of Elle Fanning are just icing on the cake. [EW]

I’m really loving the new motion poster for The Hunger Games. At first glance it’s deceptively simple wit just the flaming logo and slogan overhead. But I feel it really sets the tone for what I hope the movie will be like. My favorite part, however, is the ominous music playing in the background. [Yahoo!]

If it wasn’t already, Andrew Niccol’s In Time just became my most anticipated movie of the year after watching the trailer. I loved his work in The Truman Show, and I’m in love with his movie, Gattaca. In Time seems along the same idea of the second one, a scifi movie with a message. At this point I can’t wait to see him direct Stephenie Meyer’s The Host. [IGN]

Another eagerly anticipated scifi movie is Ridley’s Prometheus, originally supposed to be a prequel to Alien. Not much is known about the film besides Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, and Charlize Theron have been cast. Today the first still image was released, and a quick fingered fan also took a snapshot from the footage that was shown during the panel. [Deadline] [Collider] [AVPGalaxy]

Somehow, there are currently two Snow White movies currently in production, yet only one of them has actually started filming. Lilly Collins will be playing the fairest of them all for Relativity Media’s version, and the first still image of her as Snow White was released today. And woah, she’s shed her lighter hair for the role. From director Tarsem Singh, The Fall, this movie is sure to be gorgeous at least. Amusingly enough, Universal’s Snow White will star Kristen Stewart, the Twilight co-star of Lilly Collin’s boyfriend, Taylor Lautner. [EW]

One last piece of last minute news: My dreams of finally getting another Power Rangers movie have finally been reliazed, well sort of. It has just been announced that there are plans to make Voltron, ok, not exactly Power Rangers, into a live-action movie. [Hero Complex]
